Daniel P. Calvisi is the President of The Writers' Building, an exclusive network of
screenwriters, headquartered in Los Angeles, but with members
that hail from all over the globe.
Dan is a professional
movie studio story analyst, screenwriter
and private story coach, and is the author of Story Maps:
How to Write a GREAT Screenplay (Act Four Screenplays,
professional story consultation). His employers have included
Miramax Films, Dimension Films, Twentieth Century Fox,
New Line Cinema, and Polygram Filmed Entertainment. He
has worked for executives who developed the films Chicago,
Ulee's Gold, Spy Kids, Scream 2 & 3 and Chocolat, among others.
As a screenwriter, Dan has written page-one rewrites on assignment
on several screenplays, as well as an uncredited treatment rewrite on
the fantasy epic Empires of the Deep. He recently wrote a short
screenplay on assignment that goes into production in 2011. He has
received training in comedy writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade
Theater, workshopping sketches and shorts with writers from MTV,
Comedy Central and The Onion.
Dan is a
published writer in Script magazine
and has taught screenwriting
and story analysis at four educational institutions, including the New
School University in New York City and Cabrillo College Extension
in Aptos, California.
He holds a B.F.A. in Film and Television from NYU’s Tisch School
of the Arts.
